ICAR-IIWM, Bhubaneswar Celebrated 30th Foundation Day on 12 May, 2017

ICAR-Indian Institute of Water Management, Bhubaneswar celebrated its 30th foundation on 12th May, 2017. On the occasion, a brainstorming session entitled "Translating the research findings into implementable solutions / products in the field of agricultural water management" was organized in the forenoon. About 50 scientists/officials from the sister ICAR institutes participated in the meeting. Dr. Dipankar Saha, Hon'ble Member, CGWB, MoWR, RD & GR, Govt. of India, New Delhi has graced the occasion as Chief Guest. He opined that translating the findings of research to profitable adoption, integrating information and communication technology in agricultural water management research with ample use of spatial data and groundwater modeling could play a vital role in national agricultural productivity enhancement programs to meet food security challenges in the future. At the outset, Dr S.K Ambast, Director, ICAR-IIWM, Bhubaneswar welcomed the guests and participants of the meeting and made a brief remark on the background and purpose of the brain storming meeting.

In the afternoon, the Foundation Day Lecture was delivered by Dr. Dipankar Saha, Member, CGWB on "Groundwater development in India: Present status and future perspective" for the benefit of scientific fraternity and shared his vast experiences of closely working in the field of groundwater management for about three decades. Dr S. Pasupalak, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, OUAT, Bhubaneswar was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He appreciated the useful information shared by Dr. Saha and called upon the scientific fraternity to take up the future challenges particularly in the wake of climate change scenario. He also appreciated the contributions of ICAR-IIWM for significant water management research in the country. He advised all the scientists to work closely with farming communities in the field and help them to face new challenges in agriculture water management with greater confidence. Earlier in the afternoon session, Dr. S.K. Ambast, Director, ICAR-IIWM, Bhubaneswar made a brief presentation about the past one years' achievement of the institute and briefed a roadmap for water management research in the country. On the occasion, three staff, one each in administrative & accounts, technical and supporting categories were recognized for their significant contributions to the organization and felicitated with ICAR-IIWM Proficiency Award. Dr Jatinder Kishtwaria, Director, CIWA; Dr. J.K. Sundaray, Director, CIFA and Heads of the Regional Stations of ICAR-IIHR, ICAR-CTCRI and ICAR-CARI have also graced the occasion.

In the evening, a cultural programme was organized where ICAR-IIWM family members took part generously and performed different cultural events for guests and dignitaries.
