Activity-5: Multiple use of water for enhancing water productivity for climate change adaptation and mitigating excess water situation

• A total volume of 12842 m³ (3 ponds), 50,323 m³ (9 ponds) and 28,652 m³ (6 ponds) were created at Pattaimundai canal command, Kendrapara, Sukal minor, Puri, Odisha, Darpanarayanpur MIP, Nayagarh, Odisha, respectively to supplement canal Water with rainwater.

• Net water productivity increased from Rs. 1.22/m³ from sole rice to Rs. 14-25/m³ through multiple use of water from created secondary reservoir in canal command, it also ensured double/triple cropping in different farmers field. 
  

Innovative approaches to mitigate flood and excess water situations

Flood water harvesting through suitably designed water harvesting structures, cultivation of waterlogging tolerant rice varieties, high value aquatic crops, pisciculture inside pond 

Water productivity achieved: Rs 7-14/m³
