Hon'ble DDG (NRM) Reviewed Research Accomplishments and future plans of ICAR-IIWM, Bhubaneswar, AICRP on IWM and CRP on Water during 9-11 May 2020



The progress of Standing Finance Committee (SFC) document with regard to research achievements (2017-2020) and future research plan for the plan period (2020-2025) of ICAR-IIWM was reviewed by Dr. S.K. Chaudhari, Hon'ble Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management), ICAR on 9th May 2020 (2.30 to 6.00 PM). The meeting was organized through video conferencing. Directors of NRM institutes, Scientists from various institutes including ICAR-IIWM, ADG (AAG&CC), ADG (S&WM) participated in the meeting. At the outset, Dr. Atmaram Mishra, Director, ICAR-IIWM made a power point presentation on the research achievements and future research plan of the institute. The presentation was followed by a detailed interaction session. Dr. S. Bhaskar, ADG (AAF&CC), Dr. Adlul Islam, ADG (S&WM), the Directors, Heads, Project Coordinators and Scientists of other NRM Institutes have appreciated the research accomplishment of ICAR-IIWM and suggested several water management research thrusts for consideration under future research priorities. DDG (NRM) appreciated the efforts of ICAR-IIWM and suggested to develop field scale water management solutions at national level, use of ICT/artificial intelligence in agricultural water management including canal automation, development of state specific water management plans and policy papers on energy saving and groundwater-energy nexus.


On 10th May 2020, the review meeting started at 10.30 AM where in the administrative issues were discussed for all NRM institutes. Dr. A. Mishra, Director, ICAR-IIWM briefed about the vacant administrative and technical posts of the institute. He requested the Council for consideration of timely posting of new administrative officer.


On 11th May 2020 (2.30-6 PM), the research achievements and future research plans of AICRP on IWM and CRP on water were reviewed. Dr. P. Nanda, Principal Scientist presented the progress of research activities of 26 Centres of AICRP on IWM and future line of work. It was followed by presentation of research activities and new research priorities of CRP on Water by Dr. P. Panigrahi, Senior Scientist and Dr. S.K. Jena, Principal Scientist, respectively. DDG (NRM) suggested to study water management strategies for Bundelkhand region, rejuvenation of defunct bore wells, groundwater modelling under AICRP on IWM and impact analysis of rubber dams installed through CRP on Water. The proceedings containing all the suggestions is being prepared.
