The International Day of Yoga was celebrated at ICAR-Indian Institute of Water Management, Bhubaneswar on 21st June 2017. As per the action plan prepared yoga practice was conducted for two days by Shri Jugojyoti Jadabanand Choudhury and Shri Sahsransu Pradhan, Sanghatan Mantri,Yuva Bharat, Patanjali Yog Peeth, Khurda, Bhubaneswar, Odisha on 16th and 17th June 2017 respectively from 5 to 6 pm. On 21st June 2017 mass yoga was performed from 5.30 am to 7.00 am as per the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) as issued by Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. At the beginning Shri Choudhury, yoga expert briefed about yoga and its origin. Then started mass yoga with a 2 minute prayer and 10 minutes of Sadilaja / Chaalan Kriyas/ Loosening Practices yogasanas viz., Taadaasan (ii) Vrikshaasan (iii) Pada-hastaasana / Uttaanaasana (iv) Ardha Chakraasana (v) Trikonaasana, (vi) Bhadraasana/Baddha konaasan (vii) Vajrasana/Veerasana (viii) Ushtraasana ( Ardha for bigginners) (ix) Shashankaasan (x) Utthana Mandukasana (xi) Marichyaasana/Vakraasana (xii) Makaraasana (xiii) Bhujangaasana (xiv) Shalabhaasana (xv) Setubandhasana (xvi) Utthanapaadaasana (xvii) Ardha Halasana (xviii) Pavana Muktaasana (xix) Shavaasana were performed for 20 minutes. The benefits, salient points, caution/precautions etc. was discussed for each practice.
After completion of the aasanas 3 cycles of Kapaalabhaati of 40 strokes was practised for 3 minutes followed by Nadi Shodhana / AnulomaViloma Pranayama (5 rounds), Sheetali Pranayama (5 rounds ) and Bhraamari Pranayama (Bhramari Rechaka) (5 rounds) were also practised for 6 minutes. Dhyana/ Meditation was performed for 8 minutes with eyes closed and and hands in Jnana / Gyana Mudra. At last the yoga practice session ended with a Sankalpa followed by Shantih patha.
In the afternoon from 3 to 5 pm a formal workshop on Yoga was conducted. Dr. S. K. Ambast, Director, ICAR-IIWM, Bhubaneswar welcomed the guests and briefed about the activities performed to celebrate International Day of Yoga. Shri Sudhangshu Sekhar Adhikary Odisha State Coordinator, Patanjali Yog Peeth, Khurda, Bhubaneswar, Odisha delivered lectures on usefulness of yoga in our day to day life. Shri Jugojyoti Jadabanand Choudhury expert from Patanjali demonstrated aasanas helpful to control diabetes, hypertension, gastric joint problems and sense organs. The programme was followed by plantation of Guava and Sapota plants in the Institute Campus. The programme was organised by Dr. Mausumi Raychaudhuri, Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer of the International Day of Yoga.
