Description:

A Samuhik Charcha entitled “Suitable water management technologies for transfer to farmers field” was organized at ICAR –IIWM, Bhubaneswar on 07 April 2026. Dr S.K. Rautaray, Nodal Officer HRD presented on the objective of the Samuhik Charcha and its link with the Sadhana Saptah. Dr A. Sarangi presented details on suitable water management technologies for onfarm adoption. The scientists of the institute actively participated in the discussion. The significant outcomes include: Enhancement in awareness/knowledge on IoT enabled irrigation in areas with internet and wi-fi connection, computer and internet literate farmers and in high value crops. In waterlogged areas, raised and sunken bed technology can be transferred. ‘Multiple use of water’ technology is suitable for areas with low seepage percolation loss and in farms with integration of crop and livestock for high water productivity. In water scarcity situations, pipe conveyance and sprinkler irrigation is suitable for close spaced seasonal crops, undulating topography and light textured soils. Drip irrigation is suitable for wide spaced perennial crops. Mulching with micro irrigation is desired for further enhancing water productivity.
