Report of Day-7on celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada by ICAR-IIWM Bhubaneswar on 07-11-2025

Description:

On the 7th day of the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas celebration at Khaira Village, Gunupur (Rayagada district of Odisha), the focus was placed on promoting infrastructure development that support sustainable livelihoods and enhance the economic well-being of tribal communities. The initiatives highlighted during the event included the supply of fifty (50) numbers of Sintex 500-liter tanks for gravity fed irrigation, 500 grafted mango saplings Amrapalli var. for orchard development, the construction of one water harvesting structure of 1800 m2 for aquaculture based integrated farming system, establishment of low-cost goatery units, and the promotion of sprinkler irrigation system in the village. These efforts aim to improve access to water resources, encourage income-generating activities, and strengthen local self-reliance. The distribution of Sintex tanks will help in ensuring regular water supply for garden and horticultural activities, promoting kitchen gardens and nutritional security among households. The water harvesting structures are designed to collect and store rainwater for fish farming, providing a sustainable source of livelihood while conserving water resources and improving groundwater recharge. The goatery initiative continues to empower tribal farmers by providing them with improved goat breeds, training in animal care, and support for fodder cultivation, ensuring consistent income generation. The community expressed gratitude for these interventions, recognizing their importance in improving living standards and ensuring livelihood security. The celebration concluded with a pledge to uphold the spirit of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas by continuing efforts toward inclusive development, environmental conservation, and empowerment of tribal communities through innovative and sustainable infrastructure projects in the village. A total of 96 tribal farmers including 27 females were present to witness the event. They were also briefed about the life history and inspirational story of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
